NCCHS Boys Basketball Team Wins Regional Championship

As we progress towards becoming 3A State Boys Basketball Champions, the Warhawk Boys' Basketball Team has been named 3-A Regional Champions after defeating the Prosser Falcons on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 and defeating Vernon Hills Cougars on February 29, 2008. Vernon Hills High School hosted the Regionals. The Warhawks will play for the 3-A Sectional title beginning on Tuesday, March 4th at Antioch High School. If they advance, they will play in the sectional championship game on Friday, March 7, 2008 at Antioch High School.

The Warhawks are coached by Gerald Coleman, who is assisted by Cheryl Coleman, Thomas Coleman and Brian Eck.

NCCHS Boys Named Division Champs!

Congratulations to the NCCHS Boys' Basketball Team and their head coach, Gerald Coleman, for winning the Prairie Division of the Northern Suburban Conference. The Warhawks ended a great regular season with a record of 21 - 4. The administration applauds the dedication of the players and their parents, plus the coaching staff of NCCHS for their commitment to excellence. We also applaud our many fans and supporters of NCCHS for their great attendance at home and away games.

As the Warhawks venture into postseason playoff games, we extend our best wishes for success as they represent our school and community. Here is the initial playoff schedule that has been released from the NCCHS Athletics Office:

NCCHS Student Selected for Cheer Hawaii USA

Iesha Coston, the daughter of Mrs. Rochelle Hicks, has been selected as one of 123 cheerleaders throughout the country to participate in an eight-day cheerleading camp. This camp will be held at The University of Hawaii, and Ieshas will be sponsored by the Lake County Chapter of Missy's Friends. Iesha is a Junior who plans to attend UCLA upon graduating from NCCHS. Congratulations are extended to Iesha for being selected to participate in the prestigious cheerleading camp, and congratulations are also extended to her family. Her cheerleading sponsor is Mrs. Marietta Reynolds.

School Closure for Wednesday, February 6, 2008

North Chicago Community School District #187 will be closed because of inclement weather on Wednesday, February 6, 2008. The Superintendent, Dr. Hakanen, has informed all campuses that Wednesday, February 6, 2008 will be a snow day with the pending snow storm that is expected to hit North Chicago later tonight. Please consult this website and our local media for updates for when we will resume school.

Dr. Senter To Be Recognized as Outstanding Educator

Congratulations are extended to NCCHS Assistant Principal over Guidance, Dr. Brenda Senter, for being recognized by the North Shore Illinois Branch of the National Association of University Women (NAUW) as one of three 2008 Outstanding Educators. Dr. Senter will be formally recognized at a luncheon sponsored by NAUW on February
16, 2008. NCCHS salutes Dr. Senter on being the recipient of this prestigous honor.

American Government Students Trained as Election Judges

Congratulations to the several North Chicago Community High School American Government Students who were trained to be Election Judges and will be working the Polls on Super Tuesday, February 5, 2008. Three of these students, Paris Stewart, Elizabeth Coleman, and Semeka Cunningham will serve as Election Judges for the second time. This a great opportunity for these students to learn how government and the political process work in a real world experience. Juanita Fields Foundation Scholarship

The Juanita Fields Foundation is a charitable organization whose goal is to assist others with their educational pursuits. The foundation is seeking to award its first educational scholarship for Spring, 2008. Specific information about the qualifications and application process for this scholarship may be obtained from the Guidance Office at NCCHS.

Summer Job Opportunities

The Workforce Development Department's Summer Youth Employment Program will start taking applications on February 1, 2008 for summer job opportunities. Interested persons should call the HotLine at 847-377-3443. Walk-in or mailed information will also be accepted at the following address:
